I am a faculty member at the University of Haifa. My prime interests are in facilitating and studying people’s learning about complex systems; and, restructuring conceptual knowledge in science for deeper and easier learning. To this goal, I work with a wide span of age-groups and abilities, and conducts research into people’s reasoning about systems they encounter in everyday life and about systems which they construct and explore in the domain of science, technology, and health; and develop and study computer-based and physical learning environments. Three strands run throughout my research in the learning sciences: (a) People’s thinking about complex systems and how this thinking can be supported and advanced; (b) Restructurations of conceptual domains in science to increase learners’ access to deeper scientific knowledge; (c) Harnessing complexity to address individual and social problems. A distinct aspect of this work is the invention and development of new learning technologies, closely tied with and supporting my theoretical and empirical work. I conduct translational processes, bringing complexity perspectives to bear upon problems in various domains, usually with a focus on learning.
