Dear NetLogo Users,

The NetLogo Center is excited to announce the first NetLogo user conference in Chicago, June 29-July1, 2026! The conference is intended to bring together agent-based modelers and NetLogo users in education, science, and other fields to share, learn, build networks, provide feedback to the NetLogo team, and have fun.

We are collecting ideas for events that best serve the NetLogo community. To provide input on conference content, please fill out the short survey available here (if you aren’t interested in a conference please consider still answering just the first two questions—how you use NetLogo and that you aren’t interested).

The details we know so far

The conference will be on the University of Illinois-Chicago campus. The venue is within walking distance of the Greek Town neighborhood, 1.5 miles from Chicago’s Loop and easily accessible from the airports via mass transit. Low-cost dormitory housing will be available. We have not yet established the registration fee but intend it to be affordable for public school teachers and university students.

The conference will include a mix of events of general interest, events intended especially for educators and (separately) scientific modelers, training opportunities for NetLogo-related software and curricula, mentorship opportunities such as small sessions of new and experienced modelers, and social activities. We plan to offer professional development credit for teachers.

We anticipate approximately the following deadlines as the conference approaches:

  • Mid December, 2025: Second announcement with a call for abstracts for contributed papers (presentations, posters, and demonstrations).

  • Early March, 2026: Deadline for submitting abstracts.

  • Late March, 2026: Notification of contributed paper acceptance:

  • Early May, 2026: Early registration for conference with reduced fee.

  • Early March - early June, 2026: Registration for the conference and for campus lodging.

Up-to-date information will be available on this webpage, and we will continue to post on the forum, netlogo-users google group, and the NetLogo mailing list (sign up here).

Will it be possible to attend online?

We probably won’t have online attendance, but we do plan to host some separate online events (e.g., mini-conferences, webinars) at another time. We will probably record some sessions from the conference and put them online though.

I have already completed the survey and wanted to check whether the conference date has been confirmed. On the conference page it says “exact dates to be announced soon” and in the Timeline section it says “Second announcement with a call for abstracts for contributed papers (presentations, posters, and demonstrations)” — has this second announcement already been made? Since the Soccer World Cup will take place in some locations of the United States around those months, it is especially important for me to have the date confirmed as soon as possible.

Hi and sorry for the delay! We meant to send the second announcement in December, but some issues came up and then everyone went on winter vacation. The dates are confirmed for June 29-July 1. We will send the second announcement this week.
