Unable to Launch NetLogo 6.4.0 ― "Enter your name:" Error

Hi there,

I’m encountering an issue with launching NetLogo 6.4.0 after installation. The problem started after I changed the language setting and enabled log reporting in the preferences menu.

I’ve already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application. Even after removing local files associated with NetLogo before reinstalling, the error persists.

Here is a video showing the issue: Netlogo 6.4.0 - "Enter your name" error | Loom

Below is the error log:

System: Windows 11 Home Single Language (24H2)

Any thoughts?

Found the issue (:person_facepalming:): NetLogo couldn’t access certain files due to user restrictions.

If you’re facing the same problem, try the following steps:

  1. Run NetLogo as Administrator (right-click on the shortcut and select “Run as administrator”).
  2. Go to Tools > Preferences.
  3. Uncheck “Enable logging”.

Hi Daniel,

After enabling logging, did you set a directory to store the logs? By default, the directory field is empty, so it will attempt (and inevitably fail) to store the logs in a root directory, most likely your C: drive. If I follow the same steps as you, but with English set as the language, I get the exact same error, so I think this may be your issue as opposed to the language. Hope this helps!

Hi ERSUCC,

You’re probably right. I hadn’t set the directory when the issue occurred.

If you set a directory such as your Downloads folder and then restart the application in normal permissions mode (not administrator mode) does the error still occur?
